Flowers for Rosh Hashanah

September 1, 2010

The beginning of September, and the end of summer, and back to school… it is truly like the start of a New Year. The Jewish calendar declares that this is the time of new beginnings, a time to kiss the old year good-bye and embrace the new.

A good holiday table features wonderful food. And it should also feature wonderful flowers!

Ontario growers have produced fabulous sunflowers, gerberas, gladiolas and chrysanthemums this year. We are seeing lots of rich red, burgundy, gold and bronze as the fall season begins. Have a look at this arrangement:

Or try this autumn centrepiece:

Huron Sunset

There are no gourds available yet, but I love the colours in this centrepiece!

If you prefer, it is quite acceptable to send a bouquet of cut gladiolas for the holidays. They are healthy and long-lasting and come in a variety of colours. You could have them arranged in a vase, if you think that’s what the recipient would like.

Here’s one more photo, featuring a couple of sunflowers:

Sunrise

This is a favourite item from our Martin’s Exclusives collection. The design is organic with groupings of flowers much like they grow in the garden.
