The Junction Homecoming Picnic

Remember Woolworth's and Kresge's? Remember the Beaver Theatre? How about the Junction Boys?

West Toronto Junction invited everyone who lived here to come home!

The Junction has a rich history, and is going through a time of tremendous change. We wanted to share your recollections and celebrate your contribution to our neighbourhood. Doris Moxam initiated an event called the Junction Homecoming. It was a picnic held in the Vine Park from 11 am to 4 pm on September 6th, 2008.

This was during the Junction Arts Festival, a time when many ex-Junctioneers return to visit the old neighbourhood. There was a stage set up and people with stories to share were given time at the microphone. Those too shy to read their own could have their stories read by the MC.

Along with reminiscences, the Junction Homecoming featured entertainment by local performers, historical characters, prizes, gifts and fun.

Shown in the photo above are Lynn Freeman, Julian Freeman (in character as Alfred Martin, the founder of the business), Stacey Freeman (in an 1890's style gown decorated with flowers) and Chloe Martin (in a modern dress enhanced with flowers).
