The Lady’s Slipper Orchid used to be fairly common in Britain, but over one hundred years of transplanting and cutting has greatly reduced the number of plants in the wild. It has been protected since 1981, but there seems to be a black market among gardeners who are willing to pay large sums for a plant of their own.
At the Silverdale Golf Course, the orchid grows wild. Extreme measures are being taken this month to protect the 100 year old plants.
