“The focuses are relaxed ambience and individuality.”
Grania Litwin of the Victoria Times has written an interesting article on current wedding trends. Quoting some notable designers, she touches on colours, themes, locations and decor.
If you are planning a wedding or other party in the near future, it’s worth the read.
One trend is to have large “King’s Banquet” tables that seat 30 guests or more, with an interesting tablescape down the centre.
A wedding I attended once was in Mennonite country, and the rehearsal dinner was held on a farm. We sat at long tables and the food was passed in serving bowls. You certainly got to know more people, and felt like part of a large, happy family.
I like the phrase “relaxed ambience.” It is what we all strive for, but it doesn’t automatically come with a party. The decor contributes so much! And of course flowers contribute so much to the decor. We often hear that flowers aren’t necessary for a dinner, but truly, they can make an event memorable. People have a picture in their memories of the beautifully decorated room, and that picture lasts for a long, long time.
Several years ago, we decorated a body shop (as in car repairs) for the owner’s birthday. We had centrepieces that incorporated hub caps, and flowers decorating fenders and car doors hung on the wall. That was a lot of fun! And I’ll bet everyone who attended can remember something about how the flowers transformed an ordinary workshop into a spectacular party.
